VIER Lock — Personal Innovation Project

End-to-end development of a new category of portable, high-security lock—from concept through engineering to production with a Taiwanese manufacturing partner.

VIER challenges the core compromise in portable locks: strength versus packability. Where most folding or compact locks sacrifice durability, VIER delivers top-tier security in a highly portable form.

The system features a high-security, long-shackle design that fully disassembles into a compact, easy-to-carry package. Hardened steel shackles and precision components store cleanly in an included pouch, allowing the lock to fit seamlessly into a bag without bulk.

A modular architecture enables interchangeable shackle lengths—starting at a standard 5.25" and extendable for broader use cases—all operating on a single keyway. Proprietary unidirectional shackle interfaces ensure fast, correct assembly every time, reducing user error while maintaining structural integrity.

This project resulted in issued patents and a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign, raising $35K. VIER also achieved Sold Secure Gold certification, one of the most demanding security standards globally.
